We're shutting down our deepfake detector and open-sourcing our technology

In 2024, we accomplished our foundational mission of providing state-of-the-art deepfake detection in elections worldwide, culminating in the US election in November.

With your help, we have analyzed 60,000+ images, videos, and audio clips in less than a year.

We rose to the challenge of this critical moment with more of the global population going to the polls than at any other time in history.

We have recently made the difficult decision to sunset TrueMedia.org’s deepfake detector online service.

In 2025, TrueMedia.org will continue to publish its findings and make its resources available to the academic research community.

What This Means for You

  • Access: Your access to TrueMedia.org will remain available through January 13. After this, all accounts and data will be securely closed.
  • Download Your Data: Go to History > Download CSV to ensure you have any necessary reports.
  • Support: Our team will continue to provide support through contact@truemedia.org until the closing date

What's Next

  • Open Source: We will be open-sourcing our source code for the TrueMedia.org web application and our six in-house detection models that include image and video deepfake detection
  • Research: The machine learning team is actively working on contributing our models to the research community through academic research paper submissions.

With gratitude,

The TrueMedia.org Team
